Genentech has been a partner of the GNYMASCC from the very beginning. In fact, Pat Noodt, a Genentech Specialist along with Emily Schabb, a previous Stroke Coordinator, formed GNYMASCC in 2010 as a way for the Greater New York Area Stroke Coordinators to  meet each other and share best practice. Since then, the group has grown tremendously and continues to share ideas and brainstorm initiatives for better patient care.

GNYHA’s programs bring together clinical and administrative staff from member hospitals to share information on myriad topics in a collaborative setting. Through workgroups, briefings, and educational/training sessions, GNYHA programs support and advance our member hospitals’ efforts to deliver the finest care to their patients.

Our core mission—helping hospitals deliver the finest patient care in the most cost-effective way—never changes.

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) stroke designation program began as a demonstration pilot program in 2002 in select areas of the state and later expanded to the entire state in 2004.

The NYSDOH has historically recognized hospitals who have advanced capabilities to treat and support stroke patients at Primary Stroke Centers. Primary Stroke Centers in New York State demonstrate these advanced capabilities by satisfying standards developed by NYSDOH based on evidence from "The Brain Attack Coalition Guidelines for Primary Stroke Centers." The Brain Attack Coalition is a group of professional, voluntary, and governmental organizations dedicated to setting direction, advancing knowledge, and communication of the best practices to prevent and treat stroke.
